Support China Earthquake Victims
It is with deep sadness that we convey our heartfelt condolences to the many thousands of people who are suffering as a result of the major earthquake that struck on Monday, May 12, at 2.28 p.m. Beijing time (6:28 GMT) in southwestern China’s Sichuan Province and surrounding areas. The earthquake measured 7.9 on the Richter scale and has been followed by many lower-scale earthquakes, aftershocks, and landslides.
According to the latest reports, over 34,000 people have been confirmed dead and many more have been injured or are missing following the collapse of schools, homes, hospitals, and factories. It is still too early to determine the full extent of the loss of human life and damage to property.
The International Sustainable Development Foundation is encouraging all those who can make a financial contribution to the relief efforts to do so either through the American Red Cross, which is coordinating with the Red Cross Society of China, or Mercy Corps. Each of these non-profit organizations has mobilized resources to assist and has a strong track record of working effectively on the ground in China.
