Impressive Results from 2007 EPEAT Computer Purchases
The Green Electronics Council released annual benefits figures yesterday for the environmental improvements resulting from worldwide 2007 purchase of EPEAT registered products.
EPEAT is an environmental rating system for computers developed in a multi-year stakeholder process supported by US EPA. With an 150% increase in unit sales of EPEAT-registered products, the lifecycle environmental benefits of those purchases—including reductions in the use of primary materials by millions of metric tons and reductions in the use and disposal of toxic materials by thousands of metric tons—compared to the purchase of conventional products are enormous.
The environmental benefits report and additional information can be found on the EPEAT website.
The EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) program evaluates computer desktops, laptops, and monitors based on 51 environmental criteria developed through an extensive stakeholder consensus process supported by US EPA. The Green Electronics Council manages EPEAT.
The Green Electronics Council is a program of the International Sustainable Development Foundation. It partners with environmental organizations, government agencies, manufacturers and other interested stakeholders to improve the environmental and social performance of electronic products.
